Reflection, Posted by Alice

As we approach the end of 2009 here at Vanishing Point we have been reflecting on past work. We have worked hard to give great customer satisfaction over the years and will look forward to working with new and returning clients in 2010. From large companies with huge brands (such as NEXT, B&Q, Tuiss and Natures Purest) to smaller, local firms, We treat each client the same, no matter how large or small the company, to make sure that they get exactly what they want and a final result to be proud of.

An inspirational visit to Newcastle, Posted by Alice

I recently had a weekend in Newcastle and really enjoyed visiting the many art galleries this big city has to offer. The two main ones that I feel deserve a mention in the blog are the Baltic and the Biscuit Factory, both displayed talented, thought-provoking work. The city its self is full of beautiful buildings and structures, inspirational shapes and historical architecture. A walk along the river Tyne has you admiring huge bridge structures across the river (and popping into
restaurants along the way!). The view from the top of the Baltic Art gallery is gorgeous. I think it's important as a designer to always keep 'creatively active' as inspiration is everywhere, and in fear of making this sound like an advert from the tourist board to come and visit Newcastle :-) I will move onto the artists...

Damien Hirst's work was displayed in the Baltic art gallery, he had constructed a Pharmacy including huge cabinets full of medicines and even a counter, although at first I was a little questionable as to weather this piece could be considered 'art' (the never-ending debate in the art world) but I found myself thinking about the association of medicines/drugs. The authority and power of the pharmacy. I do think, however, that there needs to be more divisions of the definition of art, so that the traditional talented painters of the art world are not covered up by
modern alternatives.

The biscuit factory boasts many new artists, and is the perfect place for a keen collector looking for the next great artist, or for a breath of fresh air, to view new ideas and the next generation's interpretation of their world. I was really impressed by the young talent.

A Nature Encounter, Posted by: Alice

We saw an article on a Spanish architecture company SelgasCano that really caught our eye, it was their unusual office space that grabbed our attention. Their office design and creation was inspired by the desire to be closer to nature. They don't use lighting much either, as the natural sunlight streams through so easily (and it's Spain or course, and not cloudy Britain :-) The forest location must be great to escape from busy city life and have time to reflect on ideas and search for inspiration from the natural environment. This office creation is really making us want to buy more plants for the office :-)

A suite brief :-) posted by: Alice

Back in July we worked with Forest on a photography brief for their range of sofas. Each shot was propped and styled perfectly. We kept the room sets as open as possible so not to distract the eye away from the product. The propping was carefully colour matched and kept to a minimum, it created a stylish environment for the sofas.

Our studio has lovely huge windows, which became part of the room set for this brief, the natural light really brings the images to life. Our client was really happy with the final images, below are just a few of the final shots...

Mini Christmas Trees, posted by: Alice

For Christmas we have found some great decorations to brighten up the office, these are our top 5 mini christmas trees to bring some festive cheer to your workplace...

This simple design is nice and glittery to give your office a festive christmas feel, it's classy and it's not too over the top.

This tree is so cute, with a traditional christmas tree appearance. If you don't what a modern alternative this one is perfect for you.

This one is a bargain Christmas tree, shiny and very pretty. Be quick though, Debenhams Might sell out quickly at such a good price.

Although this one is more expensive than the rest, we loved the metalcraftsmanship and the decorative animals that makes this piece different from other standard designs.

I think this one is perfect for the office, pretty, colourful and very festive. It is available in other colours including pink.

Wedding cards and Christmas colours, Posted by: Alice

We were approached by Pink Tulip to design wedding invitations and cards, Our Graphic Designers got their creative hats on and produced some lovely work, which is now available off the Pink Tulip website. We really enjoyed this brief and the freedom of it, which resulted in these lovely designs with detailed patterns in a decorative style. Our client was really happy with the designs and we will be working with Pink Tulip again on a new range soon...

The traditional colours of Christmas have always been red and green, but 'Christmas by colour' have challenged this with their collection of colours we really associate with Christmas. The colours range from Sprouts, Coca Cola, The Grinch and even Nana's Eggnog! You can purchase cards, wrapping paper and posters for the office with these Christmas inspired colours :-) We love the fun of Christmas spreading through Graphic Design, and this twist on Patone colours is great...

Birmingham NEC Interiors Event, see you there!! Posted by: Alice

Today our mystery set (soon to be revealed) is half-way there and looking ace! Pictures will appear on here soon.

We're looking forward to the Interiors event at Birmingham NEC 24 - 27th January and can't wait to see the exhibits, we specialise in interiors and it will be really interesting to meet potential new clients and see all the new ranges from different companies. If your business is planning to go and you would like to meet up to discuss brochure costs or arrange a photo shoot in a our studio, give us a ring or drop us an email :-) If your company is exhibiting and requires flyers, leaflets, posters or any graphic design work to get your new products into the public domain, we would be more than happy to give you a quote. Click here for our contact details.

I really love the work from illustrator Yulia Brodkaya (who was recently written about in this month's issue of Creative review) Yulia Brodkaya's artwork is really inspiring, I really like how the simple material of paper has been transformed in her work to create colourful, detailed pieces. I remember as a kid using this technique to create simple flowers for greeting cards. It just proves that you can re-live old methods to produce something new, creative and beautiful.

The New Next home directory spring summer, out now :-) Posted by:Alice

The new Next catalogue is out now, including spreads designed by us, yay! We were given the opportunity by Next to photograph the products in our studio, we created and designed the Nursery room sets... it was all very cute! Each set was individually styled for a cozy feel.

The graphic design side of constructing the spreads was a rewarding project, it's great to see all our hard work in print :-) We would like to thank the parents of the babies and toddlers we featured, all models were well behaved and proper little stars! For the mother and baby section (the push chairs) the photos were provided by next, but all graphic design was done by us, we also got the chance to take some of the product shots. If you would like to see our designs they are pages 1172 - 1193 in the Next home directory, spring summer. Got to next website click here.

creative ideas, posted by: Alice

Our photo-shoot for Swaffer fine fabrics went really well, after three days of styling and photographing in the studio the results were rewarding :-) we produced graphic design material for them, including an A4 leaflet, single sided designs and also large pattern book pages. We wish them all the best for their new ranges...

We love creative ideas here at vanishing Point, and this design has really caught our eye, it's a folding plug designed by Royal college of Art graduate Min-Kyn choi...

On the move with your thin, tiny laptop in your bag, you don't want a chunky plug getting in the way. This space-saving alternative is a great idea and we're so happy that someone has finally questioned: 'Just because it's been this design for years, doesn't mean it can't be improved'. Everything can be re-designed to suit our ever-changing society. A huge thumbs up from us :-) click here to see Min-Kyu's website.

Three weeks ago we had a photography and styling brief for natures purest, once the range has been released we will get the images on here asap, watch this space. You can view their current products at http://www.naturespurest.co.uk/

Our first blog, how exciting!! Posted by: Alice

Here at Vanishing Point we have decided to open up our design world to you through this blog, there's so much going on that we want you to know about...

Our photography shoot for Tuiss blinds went really well and our photos are now up on their new sparkly website www.tuiss.co.uk All the room sets were constructed in our studio space and styled perfectly for each shot. We really enjoyed the brief and look forward to working with Tuiss again.

The Christmas festive vibe has reached our office :-) The Next Directory 2009 is out now and features 8 spreads we designed. All the sets were constructed in our studio and our skilled photographers got creative with the giftware shots. We even had dog and cat models in for the pet gifts page, which was a first for our studio, the animals behaved themselves though... phew! see our work at this link.

We've had a busy few weeks and are currently in the process of a huge set-build for a new client, it's starting to take shape and the whole team is really looking forward to the shoot. Unfortunately we can't reveal much more at present, but put it this way.. it's one of the most challanging and exciting set creations the studio has seen, wa-hoo!!
